Digital Performer 5 Configure CoreAudio Driver
This is the first issue I had when installing Digital Performer 5.
The install was easy and it looks like the install disk has some good tutorials on it.
But, when I go to start up Digital Performer 5, this is the message I get:
Digital Performer cannot use this CoreAudio driver as it is currently configured because no outputs are available. You must configure the driver so that the MOTU Audio System can use at least one output pair.
For now I just chose the built in line output. I will try and use the TOSLINK connections once I have everything working in analog land.
Just an FYI - the built in line output is the miniplug in the back of the machine and the built in output is the headphone jack in the front.
The headphone jack is noticeably noisier than the line output.

Hey Thanks Scott.
That was a cool tip about the device aggregator. And it worked like a charm.
I am not quite ready to switch my Pro Tools card over to my new machine yet, but I look forward to using DP thru the DAE.
BTW - this is my first update for DP in awhile and I think it looks great. I love the sample libraries that are included with it now. And I think I might actually retire some of my outboard sound sources at this point because of it.
Maybe next you can help me with my First Call Horns Issue.

It’s a somewhat confusing error, but it’s right – you do need to enable a driver that has at least some outputs. Since newer Macs publish their inputs and outputs as separate drivers, that means you can’t just select the Built-in input driver by itself.
However, it’s an easy solution to use both the built-in input & output at the same time. Either:
Shift-click to select both the Built-in input and Built-in output drivers (and set the Host Buffer Multiplier to 2 – do that whenever you use two drivers)
- OR -
Go to Audio MIDI Setup and create an aggregate device from the Built-in input and Built-in output drivers, and use that driver in DP (set the Host Buffer Multiplier to 1).
